The Kats are back in town!

Guess Who's back?!? Mom has decided to try and let us blog again. She is always going on about being so busy but she is always on the computer. We had a scary turn with Nemo this last week which made us all want to find our friends again on the blogosphere and catch up. Here is what we have been up to.

Patches:
I've been peeing on things. I know I'm not supposed to but I am not happy with that Owen being here. Just when they think they have me figured out and solved I pee on something new. Most of my peeing is in Owen's room so I'm not allowed to go in there anymore which stinks because he has a window with a view. When it was cold I snuggled with mom. She rolls around too much and then I have to wake her again with my whiskers so she can lift the blanket so I can get situated. It has been nice lately so we got to go outside. I like to walk around all over but Nemo just wants to sit in the dirt. We don't get out often because it is a lot of work with the kid there. My brother got sick and I mean really sick but he is all better now so he is back to trying to eat my food.

Nemo:

So guys, I got sick. I ate and then I puked and puked and puked all over the house I felt miserable. My people kept offering food and I didn't want to see it at all. There was all this worry about my insulin and that my sugars would be too high or too low. Then I peed on my foot. I still made it to the litter box so I don't know why they complain so much but it was embarrassing to have a stinky foot. Mom kept saying I smelled funny but dad didn't think so. They called the vet anyway so I got to go see all the ladies there. Of course I wouldn't eat for them at first, gotta make them work for their money. They stole my blood and my sugars were high but nothing else so they gave me some fluids and by the time my people got off work, I was all better and eating again. I got something with ketones in my body and I was sick but better now. I just needed some extra pampering and attention is all. That Owen kid has been loving on me. He usually pets nice but he scares me sometimes so I tend to hide under the train table. He likes to tell me I'm soft and give me kisses. He is alright and sometimes he even drops food. Not much has happened other than that excitement. Hopefully we can get on the computer more and see our friends. Hope you are all still there.

Thursday Thirteen-Thanksgiving edition

Hi guys! Remember us? It has been months. We have had a lot of things going on in this house. Mom keeps making these promises to blog but then gets "busy." We think she just gets lazy. Well, the humans are leaving us for a couple days for Thanksgiving. Before that baby thing came, we went with but now they say it is just too much work. We might get to travel for Christmas though. Here are 13 things that we are thankful for this year.

1. That my tail is ok and it didn't need to be amputated at all-Patches
2. I am thankful that my family has jobs to buy all my foods and expensive insulin and lots of vet appointments. I know money is tight and costing them an extra $150-$200 a month is not always easy but they love me.-Nemo3. That my people got my old litter back. I am peeing less often now except if Nemo poops in all of the litter boxes.-Patches

4. We will be thankful for some peace and quiet when the rest of the family is away for the holiday.-Nemo
5. I am thankful to have a house where I can explore the basement.-Patches

6. I am thankful that my mom and dad have great friends to give me insulin while they are gone.-Nemo

7. I am thankful that my hair is growing back on my tail.-Patches

8. I am thankful that I don't get in trouble when I get poop all over the floor, although, I did get thrown into the bath tub.-Nemo
9. I am thankful that I can jump up high places to escape Owen.-Patches

10. We are thankful that we have kitty grass growing in the windowsill for us.-Patches and Nemo

11. I am thankful for wonderful bandanas.-Nemo

12. I am thankful for cuddling in the blankets at night and hogging the bed.-Patches

13. We are thankful for all our great friends.-Patches and Nemo
We are not thankful for this cat that has been hanging out and getting fed on our deck.

We hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving. Our humans will be home on Saturday and they promised leftovers. I will share my tail photos when they get back as a warning why not to escape the house when they get back.

Feeling better

Feeling better, no thanks to my mrowing people. They let that bhaby thing grab mii all the tyme. Well I'm here to let them know who's boss, I peed on the floor until they got my preferred litter back. I rub my krusty tail skin on them every chance I get. Patchacat is still boss of this house. If that bhaby is going to keep grabbing me we're going to have to see some changes around here. I can dodge him if I want, but it's my house, I was here first. My brother is less smart. He lays right on his toys! The bhaby lays on him then. Dumby brother cat.

Patches and her tail!

UPDATE:
Patches is at home now and resting. The vet believes there is adequate blood flow to the tip that there will not be any amputation needed. Patches was sedated and they shaved the hair to get to the cut. She has a pretty big gash in her tail where skin ripped right off the tail. They put some surgical glue on it, gave her antibiotic shot and pain meds. When we picked her up she was not a happy camper but she has been ok since getting home. She wanted to eat right away as she hadn't eaten all day but then she threw up. She has to wear an e-collar for 2 weeks if we can keep it on her. She is having a hard time with the collar and knowing where she can fit and how she can get places. Right now she wants to jump up on things but lacks the ability to see well. We tried gating her off in her own area but she jumped over the gate. We are just trying to keep her comfortable and keep Owen away now that she can't run fast enough. Anyone with tail injuries want to share how it went. I will post pics soon of her gash and her in the e-collar. The poor thing is having a hard time finding a way to be comfortable to sleep. I'm sure each day will get better. We have 3 days of pain meds so hopefully that helps.

Just wanted to give an update and the story of Patches' tail problem. I was doing trash last night and saw her heading for the door so I went to close it, but she was already out the door. Her tail got shut and her first reaction was to try to pull it. I opened the door and she went running to eat grass, which is what she usually wants to do when she gets outside. I could see that it was bleeding and that it was kind of limp on the end. I got her inside and called the ER vet. They said to control the bleeding and then bring her in in the morning. They said if it was broken they might need to amputate part of the tail. She ate and acted pretty normal last night and moved her tail around which would make it bleed more. I could tell she was having a hard time getting and staying comfortable but otherwise she acted normal. We took her to the vet this morning. The vet said that it looked like the blood flow was still going to the tail and that it looked like she ripped the skin off. The plan is to shave part of her tail and clean it up and give her some antibiotics. They took her back and they decided they need to sedate her to do this. They will sedate her and shave the tail and clean it up and see what needs to be done and will call us with any other problems but that is the plan. She may have a kink but they are going to try to save the tail. I am going to call at noon to check on her to see what they did if we don't hear from them. Thanks for all the purrs and keep them coming. We will keep you updated.

Update on Patches!

We've been having a rough couple of weeks and expensive couple of weeks. Our new house is leaking water everywhere. Nemo's insulin had some sort of instability so that had to be changed. Now we have to go through the whole expensive process of getting him regulated. This new insulin cost close to $100 for a bottle. We took advice of everyone and took Patches to the vet about peeing. They did tests but nothing. Kinda wish it was just a uti and not behavioral. The vet thought the litter probably was Ok since she is pooping in there. They also recommended the feliway and they carried it there so we got that today. Today's bill for Patches was over $100 bucks. Mom had to go to the ER for muscle spasms last month too. It has just been a rough one and a depressing time. We will get back to our updates soon. Thanks for listening to our rant for the day.

They stole some teefs!

Mom and Dad have pictures but have to find the battery charger first. I went to my vet thingy yesterday. I had to be shoved in a pet taxi which is not fun as a big mancat I am. They shaved my leg, gave me drugs. Next thing I know, I wake up but I still feel funny. Don't worry, I can eat still. That is all.

Mom update: Nemo had to have 2 teeth removed. One was a bag molar and the other one of the small front teeth. It seems to take Nemo forever to completely be out of the anesthesia. He was of course hungry when he got home and very loopy and jumpy. This morning he is back to normal. He does have pain meds for 3 days and antibiotics for 10. He has gingivitis so it should help take care of some of that. They said he might not eat for 2 days but they obviously don't know Nemo. He came home and devoured his wet food. I don't think he is bothered by it at all. He also got his nails trimmed while under.

We are grounded!

Mom won't upload any pictures or finish our updates until later this week because we are grounded. Mom and Dad say we were naughty but we don't see it that way. You see, Saturday we got lots and lots of rain and the basement flooded. Weird plumbing guys were here with hoses and tubes and made noise. Then, Mom, Dad and the screaming one left for a wedding reception. They just left us home with a wet basement. Mom and Dad came home late, it was 11 PM and it was passed our bed time. When they pulled in the driveway they saw two glowing eyes which belong to me, Patches. I hissed and growled at them and ran away. Then they saw Nemo hiding in a bush. Of course they go scoop him up and he is too dumb to run. Mom follows me around on my adventure and I finally let her catch me. My paws were getting wet and muddy. We had escaped by pushing a screen out. Mom figures that there must be another cat out there. We see it from time to time using the garden for a litter box. We just wanted to check out this big litter box ourselves. Needless to say, they were not happy to come home to us after a long day. Nemo also has something to say.

Hi guyz, I's gonna go to vet this morning. I haf to haf my teef cleand. I neber done this before. My gums are all red and I los a toof not too long ago. I'm ascaired about it for sure. The vet man seyz I may lose more teef at the cleanin. I will let you know I made it out alive when I get my bearings and get home.

The cats are back in town!

I, Patches, just want to say that I am greatly displeased at not getting to blog for a squillion years. Don't worry, I am getting my revenge. Want to know how? I have been peeing on things. A pile of clean Owen clothes-pee. Oh you left a towel on the bathroom floor-pee. Look at that, a plastic bag full of stuff from the store-what a great place to pee. Nemo's bed-double pee. The people I have who are terrible to me thought maybe something was wrong. I do poop and pee in the litter box. I only will use one of the litter boxes and if Nemo drops a bomb, I refuse to use it. Nemo of course makes his rounds to all of the litter boxes. I'm still not sold on this corn litter business either but they keep at it. But I was hissing mad and I make sure they know. We are going to do an update of sorts on the months we have been missing. So much has gone on in our house. We even got a different house. I hope people will remember us and come back. We miss our cat friends. We did a post in January, a single crummy post. I will have to find something to pee on just thinking about it. Here is our January summary.

Here is what the brat Owen looked like in January. He even has food on his face. He should clean his face better. The beginning of January, the people who must not be named started talking about buying a house. We have moved twice before and we don't like it at all. Nemo thought if they couldn't find him, they wouldn't move. Too bad he can't go five minutes without wanting food or dropping bombs or this plan might have worked.
Here we both are. Nemo is depressed because he continues to have his bloods stolen every few weeks. Here I am, trying to see if I can pee on this chair no doubt. This is about as close as we get to one another. If I would have known he was there, I would have bopped him.

In other January news, Owen took swim classes so the people were very busy. There were also a lot of sick days which meant a lot of snuggling on the bed. We like those days. Owen had lots of ear infections which meant a lot of doctors and a lot of screaming. Nemo's blood sugars were all over the place and there was discussion of him having to go into the vet all night. We are leveled off, we will explain that later though. Check back for February updates. I'd like to say there are more pictures of us but that Owen thing hogs the camera and chases us now so photography is getting a bit difficult.

We're not gunna take it

Rrrrrrrrr, we don't get on the interwebz vurrry much any moar because this baby is always chasing us around! I got a whiff of fresh air the other day and I've been purrrrring as loud as I can but mom and dad won't take me outside. Noaw they saz it's the white stuf out again..... Betus Brother got to go out in the sun but I didn't. That makes me mrowing mad. Mom and Dad are real stressed out because of something about closings getting moved because of underpants. They say as soom as the bank finishes the loan through underpants we can close the door and move into our new house. Dad promised to concoct some patchacat grazing enclosure for me. Time to go bup Betus cat in the face for getting to go out in teh sum.

Where does the time go?!?

This is Patches and Nemo's mom. I just wanted everyone to know that we are still alive and haven't froze our tails off in Iowa. The cats are being pains in the butt tonight so I told them I was going to do a quick blog post. They have their secret paws photos to show off soon. We are still working on getting Nemo's diabetes regulated but I will let him tell you about that in a few days. We will try to get here more regularly. Patches is getting grumpy that she hasn't blogged in forever. We will return when mom has energy to organize photos. Hopefully this week or weekend.

Christmas Photos!

Hi everyone. Nemo has been hogging the blog lately with all his diabetus talk so I thought it was my turn. Mom and Dad had lots of leaking eyes for a few days and lots of time on the computer looking stuff up and then some complaining about monies. Now, they are working on our diet and hoping we can get this under control. We are so thankful for this community of cats and love all the purrs and thoughts for us. We are looking at the bright side. Nemo doesn't even notice the shots, but hates the eye drops he has for his icky eye. Mom tried to do a Christmas photo shoot with us today. Nemo is the only one that ever cooperates though.

Nroooooooooo

Mrooow. I'm having a turrrible murning. I've lost a lot of weight ovur the past couple of months. My peoples are always telling me I need to loose weeght so then when I did they were all worried. Mruh eye is all goopy from consumptioniveris I get errry year so dad took me in to the vet. The doktor poked at me and prodded me and rubbed my eyes. He says 3rd year in a row I have consumptioniveris.

I thought I was done but then he took muh bloods and went away fer an awful long time. After sooo long he come back wif needles and bottles and tell dad that I has diabetus.

Then the doktor wanted dad to give me my furst shot. Dad doesn't like the needles, something to du with botched needles during foot surgury. Dad sucked it up and gaf me my shot. I have to get 2 shots a day now to make me healthy. Dad and doktor talked for a long tyme about the diabetus.

Then dad, took me to the front office and talked some numburs with the lady at the desk. Dad made a loud sigh when he handed over his debit kard. Dad says I'm luky he loves me over his poketbook. I told him Mrow Mrow Mrow (treat me now for taking me to the doktor).

Dad says everything will be fine now that I am on this medafunk.

Going to the vet!

We have been using the World's Best Cat Litter now for a week. I think it is working pretty well. I know Nemo is using it but I never see Patches in the litterbox. We still have another litter box with the regular litter in it. We were happy that not only are we using a cat litter that isn't full of chemicals, it is also made in Iowa, where we live. That makes us happy.

In other news, it looks like Nemo needs to go back to the vet. His eye is getting all read and goopy again. We battle this every year it seems like. We are also going to see what the vet says about Nemo's weight. Mom is concerned, Nemo has been on the diet of dry food but continues to eat wet food and other food but he looks so thin. We are going to see what the vet says.

Litter Help

Sorry we have been absent. Our mommy has been sick on and off for a month so she was too lazy and tired to help us blog. We have been visiting though, just not commenting. We have a problem and really need the help of the cat blogosphere.

We have been using Fresh Step litter since the beginning of time. We have two, sifting covered cat boxes. Mom is sick of the litter dust and litter getting stuck in our paws. She is also sick of feeling that she is being bad to the environment by using all this icky cat litter. We have been trying to get away from chemicals as much as possible and have been really paying attention to our food and what is in it. Now we want to look into different litter solutions. Mom and Dad went to Petsmart today and they purchased feline pine clumping and World's Best Cat Litter. We are going to try them both and see what we like. The idea of flushing our litter clumps sounds great. Much better than putting in a walmart sack like we usually do. Can you tell us what kind of litter you use and if anyone has recommendations that would be great. I'm hoping to not have to purchase 2 new litter boxes but will if need be. So please help us figure out what is the best non-clay based cat litter.

Look what we got!

So we have been searching Hallmarks for this and we gave up finding it. Then Mom and Dad made a quick stop in a store and found the whole section and low and behold there was the card. Mom and Dad jumped around and told the people they were with that they knew the cat on the front and that we were all a part of the cat blogosphere. Boy, did they learn their lesson. Don't mention that your cat blogs and that you read other cat blogs and expect people to take you seriously. Oh well!

And just an update from all the comments. We cannot imagine going to the vet any other way than on our leashes. We have both only been in a PTU when we went for surgeries so we do not even like to see that thing. On the diet front, Nemo was sitting on our regular scale and it said 14lbs. Now that might not be accurate but he looks a lot thinner already. He has learned how to knock a bag of food over and get into it now so we have to keep things put away. We are also not that strict on that diet so Nemo does get to eat some people food and his regular stinky goodness and treats. We have cut down on fancy feast to only once a week so that seems to be making the biggest difference.
