Patches and her tail!

UPDATE:
Patches is at home now and resting. The vet believes there is adequate blood flow to the tip that there will not be any amputation needed. Patches was sedated and they shaved the hair to get to the cut. She has a pretty big gash in her tail where skin ripped right off the tail. They put some surgical glue on it, gave her antibiotic shot and pain meds. When we picked her up she was not a happy camper but she has been ok since getting home. She wanted to eat right away as she hadn't eaten all day but then she threw up. She has to wear an e-collar for 2 weeks if we can keep it on her. She is having a hard time with the collar and knowing where she can fit and how she can get places. Right now she wants to jump up on things but lacks the ability to see well. We tried gating her off in her own area but she jumped over the gate. We are just trying to keep her comfortable and keep Owen away now that she can't run fast enough. Anyone with tail injuries want to share how it went. I will post pics soon of her gash and her in the e-collar. The poor thing is having a hard time finding a way to be comfortable to sleep. I'm sure each day will get better. We have 3 days of pain meds so hopefully that helps.

Just wanted to give an update and the story of Patches' tail problem. I was doing trash last night and saw her heading for the door so I went to close it, but she was already out the door. Her tail got shut and her first reaction was to try to pull it. I opened the door and she went running to eat grass, which is what she usually wants to do when she gets outside. I could see that it was bleeding and that it was kind of limp on the end. I got her inside and called the ER vet. They said to control the bleeding and then bring her in in the morning. They said if it was broken they might need to amputate part of the tail. She ate and acted pretty normal last night and moved her tail around which would make it bleed more. I could tell she was having a hard time getting and staying comfortable but otherwise she acted normal. We took her to the vet this morning. The vet said that it looked like the blood flow was still going to the tail and that it looked like she ripped the skin off. The plan is to shave part of her tail and clean it up and give her some antibiotics. They took her back and they decided they need to sedate her to do this. They will sedate her and shave the tail and clean it up and see what needs to be done and will call us with any other problems but that is the plan. She may have a kink but they are going to try to save the tail. I am going to call at noon to check on her to see what they did if we don't hear from them. Thanks for all the purrs and keep them coming. We will keep you updated.

Update on Patches!

We've been having a rough couple of weeks and expensive couple of weeks. Our new house is leaking water everywhere. Nemo's insulin had some sort of instability so that had to be changed. Now we have to go through the whole expensive process of getting him regulated. This new insulin cost close to $100 for a bottle. We took advice of everyone and took Patches to the vet about peeing. They did tests but nothing. Kinda wish it was just a uti and not behavioral. The vet thought the litter probably was Ok since she is pooping in there. They also recommended the feliway and they carried it there so we got that today. Today's bill for Patches was over $100 bucks. Mom had to go to the ER for muscle spasms last month too. It has just been a rough one and a depressing time. We will get back to our updates soon. Thanks for listening to our rant for the day.

Words for Wednesday

Everyone was correct on who the toes belong to. Patches also has white toes but its a smaller area in the front and her feet are less meaty than Nemos. We always say Patches is dressed up in her go-go boots and her fancy white gloves.

We got to go out on our leashes last weekend. There is still snow and its still chilly but we wanted to get some fresh air. Yesterday and today were really cold again but by the weekend it is supposed to be close to 50. We are very excited. Our grandma cat (Mom's mommy) and Aunt cat are coming to visit this weekend so we will have visitors. That is kind of exciting for us.

6th picture of the 6th folder

We saw this on whiskers & purrs blog and thought it would be fun to pawticipate. Mom finds it hard to help us blog during the week because she is so busy and she couldn't get any pictures of our toes to show off because we were uncooperative. We thought we would do this fun little game for today. So here it is.
Mom doesn't really put photos into folders that often so luckily she had 6 folders that had 6 pictures in them. This is a picture of me, Patches when I was little. Many of my pictures are not on the computer because mom says I'm old and I was around before they had a digital camera. I must be as old as a dinosaur! This picture is from 2005 of me cuddling with my mom. Me and my mom are very close and I prefer to cuddle with her over anyone else in the whole wide world. I even cuddle her every morning in the bathroom. We were watching TV and trying to stay warm. Both me and mom are cold a lot so we like to stay warm with blankets. We aren't going to tag anyone for this but if you like to play along here are the rules.
  1. Go to your Picture Folder on your computer or wherever you store your pictures.

  2. Go to the 6th Folder and then pick the 6th Picture.

  3. Post it on your bloggy and tell the story that goes with the picture.

  4. Tag 5 other glorious peoples to do the same thing and leave a comment on their bloggy tellin' them 'bout it.

What a week

I've been hiding out from the rain and cold lately. Mom has a hard time finding me to come blog. Nemo isn't any better. You would think these cats didn't have fur coats.
Mom wants to try to get a schedule so we can have our computer time at night. The problem is that it gets dark so early and it makes her tired (and lazy) earlier in the evening. I think that is the reason we have a laptop but what do we know, we are just cats. Mom also needs to take more pictures and Patches still is waiting to tell about how she came to her furever home. So many things to do. We want to thank everyone for continuing to stop by our blog to check on us. We want to thank everyone for their purrs for our dad. We have gone to some of you and thanked you on your blog but we haven't had time to get to everyone yet. Our dad is doing great now. He has another appointment on December 2nd and we think we find our more than so we are just kinda waiting. Dad went to the dentist today because the cold air has been bothering it. They fixed it up so you can't tell it was chipped at all. Patches is going to have to go to the vet next week we think. She seems to have a lump on her toe. She had a small spot before but it has gotten bigger so we are going to have it looked at. We'll let everyone know when and how it goes and if Patches will cooperate, we will take a picture. Mom won't be home until late tomorrow so we'll probably post on Friday.

Our dad is home!

This is how Nemo is resting with his daddycat. Mom and dad had a really long day and they are both pretty tired. Our dads surgery went ok except for the part where they had to put the IV in. Dad isn't a fan of needles and they had a hard time finding a vein. He woke up and had a sore throat and was very hungry. They had to drive a whole hour to get home and mom said it was windy and snowing. Now dad's throat is a little more sore that the pain medicine wore off but he has some to take at home. He also got bubblegum medicine. We have both had that before. Patches loves it and couldn't wait to take it but Nemo would hold it on his tongue and roll it off at the first possible moment. Wouldn't you think they could make it taste different for cats. Well, dad is resting and is very thankful for everyone who stopped by to purr and pray for him. It means a lot to have this community for support and we are so glad to be part of it. We will keep you updated on how things go. Dad has a sleep study next weekend and then an appointment again on December 2nd. We think they tell us the results before that but we aren't sure. Oh and dad came home with a chipped tooth. The doctor said he thinks it happened when they were putting the scope in. Poor dad. This other picture is Patches with dad. Dad is that lump under the blankets. We like to lay on him when he tries to nap.

Don't forget to vote!

My mom and dad want us to remind you to go out and vote on Tuesday. No matter what side you are on, everyone needs to go out and vote. It sounds like the lines might be long but it is important. I know all us kitties aren't allowed to go out and vote but we can tell our humans to do so. Our parents voted on Saturday and even then there was a line and they had to wait awhile. In other news, we are so happy for the nice weather. A lot of times during this time of year in Iowa, our mom is throwing us in our first snow for the season but would you believe it was in the mid to upper 70's today. We got to go out for a walk today and we love to do that. Nemo seems to have lost his harness but he never goes anywhere but a step out the door. It just means two people need to go out. One to sit by Nemo, the other to walk me over to the grass or anywhere my nose takes me. I like to eat lots and lots of grass but mom says no sometimes because then I go inside and get a pukey. Mom has talked for a long time about getting us new harnesses that fit better and even talked to Daisy's mom about it forever ago and now that one harness is lost, she might break down. Maybe we'll get harnesses in our stockings.

These pictures are from this summer. We live close to a state park and one day we got to go on a hike. It was a lot of fun and we love going outside and know exactly what is being said when asked if we want to go outside. Patches will even respond.

If anyone has any recommendations on cat harnesses that would be greatly appreciated. Patches is about 9lbs and Nemo is around 12-15lbs if that helps. We were looking at the Puppia harness as it seems what a lot of cats use on the blogosphere and look as though they fit better. Let us know if anyone has other recommendations.

We are very angry!!!

See me, the Patches, sitting on the laptop trying to blog. This is what I've been trying to do for almost a week with no luck. That is my dad's laptop and he has a stinkin password on it. I tried mashing every button I could think of but nothing would let me in. My mom promised I could tell people all about me. I hope you guys didn't give up on us and will still come to read our blog. Mom realizes that there is no way she can do a blog post daily but she will try to do more than one a week. I told her lots of cats do a post a day and I didn't understand what she could be doing all day when she leaves us home alone that she couldn't get it done. See all those books. That is my dad's homework for grad school. He did homework the whole weekend so he couldn't help. My mom works with people with disabilities and is throwing a Halloween party for about 25-30 clients tomorrow so she has been busy with getting that ready. We did have time for Halloween costumes and we'll post them after mom is done with the party. I promise I will tell you about me and how I got my forever home sometime soon. Mom is complaining that she has lots of stuff to do for the party so I guess I gotta let her get back to it. I promise we will be back Thursday though with our Halloween costumes.

They are home!

Well our mom and dad are home now from Wisconsin. They are of course too busy to help us make a real blog post but will have something for tomorrow. Since Nemo got to introduce himself and tell his big fat story I will get to this week. My story is far more important and grand and I hope you all come back to read about me, the queen of all cats. Well, I'm off to bother my mom and dad while they try to get some laundry done.

Just started and already missed a day

I tried everything to get my mom to blog yesterday but she was very busy with that paperwork. I guess I didn't help her enough. She was also very tired and blamed me, Patches, for keeping her up at night. I can't help it that I like to sleep close to her and on the pillow and under the blanket. She is my servant so it should be of no surprise to her that I must wake her up to lift the blanket up to let me in so I can get situated every five minutes.

Nemo will post later this evening and introduce himself to everyone. Mom said it was his turn and that I can't hog the blog.

I feel so loved.

Wow! My servants have been reading me all these comments and I had no idea how many friends I would get. My dad said I had more people visit my blog in one day than he ever gets. I'm not surprised, I am a cat and he is not so it would be boring to read about what he writes. I'm excited to tell all of you about me and my mom said that I HAVE to share the blog with my brother because she doesn't have time to do two blogs and Nemo wants friends too. So we will take turns talking about our adventures and letting you know about us. I've been trying to explain to my mom how to write these things and post pictures and make this page look more like us but she doesn't listen well and does what she wants. I'm just glad that there is spellchecker so I can write my own posts. I'll have to teach Nemo to type and use spellchecker because he isn't as smart as I am. He never is interested in the computer unless there is food involved. Tomorrow I will tell you about me and share some really cute pictures of me because I am the cutest cat in the world. My mom says she has some paperwork to do so I better help her with it so she has more time to cuddle with me later.
