UPDATE:
Patches is at home now and resting. The vet believes there is adequate blood flow to the tip that there will not be any amputation needed. Patches was sedated and they shaved the hair to get to the cut. She has a pretty big gash in her tail where skin ripped right off the tail. They put some surgical glue on it, gave her antibiotic shot and pain meds. When we picked her up she was not a happy camper but she has been ok since getting home. She wanted to eat right away as she hadn't eaten all day but then she threw up. She has to wear an e-collar for 2 weeks if we can keep it on her. She is having a hard time with the collar and knowing where she can fit and how she can get places. Right now she wants to jump up on things but lacks the ability to see well. We tried gating her off in her own area but she jumped over the gate. We are just trying to keep her comfortable and keep Owen away now that she can't run fast enough. Anyone with tail injuries want to share how it went. I will post pics soon of her gash and her in the e-collar. The poor thing is having a hard time finding a way to be comfortable to sleep. I'm sure each day will get better. We have 3 days of pain meds so hopefully that helps.
Just wanted to give an update and the story of Patches' tail problem. I was doing trash last night and saw her heading for the door so I went to close it, but she was already out the door. Her tail got shut and her first reaction was to try to pull it. I opened the door and she went running to eat grass, which is what she usually wants to do when she gets outside. I could see that it was bleeding and that it was kind of limp on the end. I got her inside and called the ER vet. They said to control the bleeding and then bring her in in the morning. They said if it was broken they might need to amputate part of the tail. She ate and acted pretty normal last night and moved her tail around which would make it bleed more. I could tell she was having a hard time getting and staying comfortable but otherwise she acted normal. We took her to the vet this morning. The vet said that it looked like the blood flow was still going to the tail and that it looked like she ripped the skin off. The plan is to shave part of her tail and clean it up and give her some antibiotics. They took her back and they decided they need to sedate her to do this. They will sedate her and shave the tail and clean it up and see what needs to be done and will call us with any other problems but that is the plan. She may have a kink but they are going to try to save the tail. I am going to call at noon to check on her to see what they did if we don't hear from them. Thanks for all the purrs and keep them coming. We will keep you updated.

Update on Patches!
We've been having a rough couple of weeks and expensive couple of weeks. Our new house is leaking water everywhere. Nemo's insulin had some sort of instability so that had to be changed. Now we have to go through the whole expensive process of getting him regulated. This new insulin cost close to $100 for a bottle. We took advice of everyone and took Patches to the vet about peeing. They did tests but nothing. Kinda wish it was just a uti and not behavioral. The vet thought the litter probably was Ok since she is pooping in there. They also recommended the feliway and they carried it there so we got that today. Today's bill for Patches was over $100 bucks. Mom had to go to the ER for muscle spasms last month too. It has just been a rough one and a depressing time. We will get back to our updates soon. Thanks for listening to our rant for the day.

Going to the vet!

We have been using the World's Best Cat Litter now for a week. I think it is working pretty well. I know Nemo is using it but I never see Patches in the litterbox. We still have another litter box with the regular litter in it. We were happy that not only are we using a cat litter that isn't full of chemicals, it is also made in Iowa, where we live. That makes us happy.
In other news, it looks like Nemo needs to go back to the vet. His eye is getting all read and goopy again. We battle this every year it seems like. We are also going to see what the vet says about Nemo's weight. Mom is concerned, Nemo has been on the diet of dry food but continues to eat wet food and other food but he looks so thin. We are going to see what the vet says.

Vet Visit-Thursday 13
So we haven't been on to blog because we are hissed off. Here are 13 things we heard when we went to the vet.
1. Wow those cats do well on leashes.
2. You guys are so pretty and handsome.
3. Wow, that is a big cat.
4. Bark, Bark
5. That bump on Patches foot must be some sort of wart.
6. The dandruff is probably more annoying for the people than the cat.
7. Don't be scared.

8. You only need one shot today.
9. Everything checks out good.
10. We will see you again next year.
11. Patches weights 11.19 lbs
12. Nemo weighs 16.8lbs
13. We need to put you guys on a DIET!

We've been on the diet for a month. Patches isn't much of a problem but it is easier to put them both on the diet because Nemo will eat her food anyway. Nemo seems to be lighter as it isn't as painful as he walks on us and his harness is looser. But boy does he meow for his food in the morning. We hope to get on more often. Stay tuned for more pictures.
Happy 6 month Birthday to our brother Owen.

Finally Friday
We are glad its finally Friday and that both our mom and dad only had to work half a day today. We are going to put up the Christmas tree. Mom borrowed a tree from a friend but after putting branches up she doesn't think it will fit so we will have to go back to our small one. Our mom is still sick but we are taking good care of her. Mom was going to let me, Nemo, post for fashion Friday but then my sister had to go to the vet so she thought we would give an update.
Patches speaking. Remember awhile ago I talked about having a weird gray lump on my toe. Well I finally went to the vet today. It was not fun because first it is really cold out there and second I don't like going to the vet by myself. I nestled into Mom the whole time trying to bury myself. The vet looked me over everywhere first and even wanted to see my butt. Mom saw a thermometer sitting out and apologized if that went in my butt but luckily it didn't. We had a nice vet who looked at my toe and was able to just clip it off. He said it was a bunch of dead skin. Mom didn't take a before picture and my paw looks all normal now. I didn't even care when they clipped it off. There was a dog in the waiting room when we left but I did well and even walked to the car. Mom is going to send out the Christmas cards this weekend now that she finally got them all ready to go. She is a little slow at these things. She says there aren't enough hours in the day but we seem to manage to sleep all day. Mom is also proud because she has been able to post every day this week and thinks she has a system down. Hope everyone is ready for the weekend.

Purr loud for our dad.
Nemo here. I made it back from the vet today and it wasn't that bad. The worst part was that they waited to give me my fancy feast until after the vet so it seemed like a really long wait for breakfast. It was raining and cold out though. We usually walk on our leashes to the vet and I'm always with my sister when we go but this time it was just me. There were no other animals there yet but my tail got big and puffy and my paws got all sweaty. My sister is usually the brave one to walk in and check out the situation while I slowly try to sneak in undetected. I don't like going there without her. The vet looked at my eye and gave me more drops. I hate the drops but I also am sick of squinting so my humans say that it will make me better. Mom said she wishes she could go to the vet because their prices are much more reasonable there. I have to tell you about something very important about my dad. He has to have surgery tomorrow and have a biopsy for a lump on his larynx. He is pretty young and doesn't smoke so it is likely that it isn't serious but he has to be under general anesthesia. Since I had to have a surgery on my neck once I know how he feels. I will share my story of that sometime, it is still a little embarrassing really. Lets just say sewing needles don't make tasty snacks. What is worse is that he couldn't eat anything after lunch and can't drink anything after midnight. Can you imagine how terrible that would be. He has to wait until 12:30 for the surgery. Mom says she will bring dad home afterwards and we have to take good care of him. That means lots of napping with dad, we like that. We just ask that you think of him tomorrow and purr for him and his larynx.

Cats love Obama!
Well, the election is over and boy are we tired. We stayed up late to watch Obama's speech. Mom and dad are so happy that we finally have a President who is going to be an inspirational speaker and not one that makes them cringe or laugh when he opens his mouth. The weather is starting to change now and it makes us said. We had mid 70's the past two days and will be down to 30's by Friday. They are also talking about the terrible white stuff called snow. Mom always has us go out in the first snow that sticks and takes our picture. Seems cruel if you ask me.

Nemo has to go to the vet tomorrow to have his eye looked at. It seems like each year at this time his eye gets really irritated. We are out of drops so back to the vet. We all think he is just allergic to himself. Our dad is also having some surgery on Friday so we will be worried and pacing the floor until we hear things are ok for him.
